BioBackground Since HBP:
Neville Longbottom was a war hero. Which in his opinion, didn't really count for much. There were lots of heroes in those final dark days of Voldemort. He did what he had to do, and for that he was grateful he had been able to help. But he did not celebrate those dark days and did his best afterwards to put them behind him. And his Gram had died not long after the end of the war.
So when the chance came to take a position on a global magical botany team, he took it. He had spent the last several years exploring jungles, wading through swamps, crossing desserts and climbing mountains. If there was a place no wizard had gone to before, Neville Longbottom went there. He had collected hundreds of samples from through-out the globe and discovered many plants never before encountering in the Wizarding World.
Now he was returning to Great Britain to begin the task of making those new discoveries available to others. He planned to write a book on Magical Plants Around the Globe. He also hoped to look up a few old friends.
Personality:
Most people remember Neville as that awkward, nervous boy at Hogwarts. But the war and his time traveling since have made some startling changes in him. Although still not comfortable in many social situations, he is a physically competent man. He can build a shelter in a storm, start a fire without magic, and survive a sand storm. His explorations have left him a healthy, thoughtful, and observant.
